Reducing sedentary behaviour in office workers by manipulation of space.
People tend to stay seated for too long and this negatively impacts health. The challenge of designing for vital office spaces was narrowed down to the aim of making office workers aware of their sedentary behaviour and stimulating them to stand up more often during work. Why? To improve their vitality. The proposed design are Dynamic Ceiling Tiles. The design is based on the principle that people are more likely to leave a space when they feel enclosed. The tiles which are attached to the ceiling move down when a worker is seated for too long. This change reduces the space around the worker. Moreover colour changes in the ceiling manipulate the perception of the amount of space.
